I don’t know how long it took me to wake up. I don’t know if time even has any meaning for me anymore. I wasn’t alone. He was with me, curled around my body, strong and protective. I stared at my hands… my talons, and the light dusting of silvery-white fur on my arms. As I moved I felt a shifting weight on my back, and the sudden awareness of it filled me with the most alien sensation- the jerking of a new set of wings. I flexed my toes, but I only had one set- my other foot was a hard hoof, tough and sharp. The strangest sensation of all, as I started to move, was the shocking swollenness of my belly. I put my hands on it, feeling the heat under my rounded, stretched skin. Azazel wrapped his arms around me and his legs both, and held me still. I stared out through the cave mouth into the darkness of the woods, and felt his heart beating against my back.

Darkness. Woods.
